Part of the Move Well pillar
This resource is recommended for schools looking to improve their 'Move Well' provision. You can find out more about your priorities by completing the Well Check.
Why it works
This resource is linked to the Move Well pillar of Well Schools. A well school recognises that competition can help pupils develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and other important life skills. Providing a broad range of inclusive opportunities allows more young people to take part in ways that reflect their interests, motivations and abilities.
Question 1 – What is the impact on pupil outcomes?
Pupils can benefit from more equitable access to enjoyable competition, leadership and physical activity. Engagement has been sustained or improved year on year, with one Movement March involving 831 pupils who recorded more than one million active minutes.
Question 2 – What is the impact on staff and the wider school community?
Regular networking, shared resources and professional development can increase staff confidence and reduce the burden on individual schools. Staff participation can also support wellbeing and help adults model active lifestyles.
Question 3 – What are the wider impacts of this approach?
A collaborative approach can strengthen links across trusts and local school sport networks, helping schools share expertise and sustain opportunities. The partnership has also reported strong School Games Mark outcomes, recognition within Ofsted reports and trust-led fundraising to support local provision.
