Help children and young people move more, sit less, sleep better, and feel healthier with the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines Toolkits.
Developed by the Youth Sport Trust and inspired by the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, these resources support schools to take a whole-day approach to movement, rest, and wellbeing. Rather than focusing only on PE lessons or sports clubs, the toolkits help pupils understand how movement habits across the entire day contribute to better health, wellbeing, and learning.
The approach is built around four simple messages:
- Sweat – be active and raise your heart rate
- Step – move more throughout the day
- Sleep – get enough quality rest
- Sit – reduce prolonged periods of sitting
Together, these daily habits help children and young people develop healthier, more balanced lifestyles.
What's included?
The 24-Hour Movement Guidelines are delivered through two complementary toolkits.

Why it works
The 24-Hour Movement approach recognises that health and wellbeing are shaped by how children spend their entire day, not just during dedicated physical activity sessions.
By helping pupils balance movement, sitting, rest and sleep, schools can support improved physical health, mental wellbeing and readiness to learn.
Together, the Teachers Toolkit and Young Leaders Toolkit encourage sustainable behaviour change through simple, achievable actions that fit naturally into everyday life.
