Major League Baseball – First Pitch

MLB First Pitch offers fun and inclusive resources to spark an interest in physical activity, sport, and the game of baseball through play and basic skill development. The programme is run in partnership with Major League Baseball and BaseballSoftball UK.

Description

What’s involved: The programme provides content orientation and training (virtually) to upskill key stage 2 (KS2) teachers to support the development of children and young people’s health, wellbeing and wider skills and personal development. MLB First Pitch resources, along with an equipment pack, will be provided to aid the delivery of baseball-related activities in lesson time, as an intervention, a mini festival or an informal competition.

Outcomes: Teachers and TAs will receive the skills, confidence, and resources to deliver a PE and school sport offer for KS2 through a fundamental bat and ball skills programme. Participating schools will be able to help children achieve their recommended CMO guidance of 60 minutes of daily physical activity and those young people will be able to enjoy a fun, active, and positive environment through an alternative activity which will develop their physical literacy.

For your school to take part in this programme you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Primary schools that have not been involved in the programme previously
  • Applications considered from schools across England – in the event of the programme being oversubscribed London boroughs will be given priority

Duration: This programme takes place over two years (subject to funding for year 2 being confirmed in January 2027), with initial training being delivered between February – April 2026. The deadline for expressions of interest is 27 February 2026
