Why it works
Physical literacy is widely recognised as a foundation for lifelong engagement in physical activity. When children and young people experience movement in a way that feels positive, inclusive and meaningful, they are more likely to develop the confidence and motivation to stay active throughout their lives. By placing emphasis on how pupils feel during physical activity – not just what they achieve – schools can strengthen enjoyment, self-belief and a sense of belonging.
The Physical Literacy Activity Pack supports schools to better understand pupils’ experiences of movement and identify practical ways to create more engaging opportunities. Through reflection, discussion and adaptable activities, staff can build a shared language around physical literacy and make informed decisions that support all learners, including those who may feel less confident in traditional sport settings.
