National School Sports Week 2025

As part of National School Sports Week grand tour of the country, we were fortunate to visit Tredegarville Primary School in Cardiff.

We had a wonderful day with the young people participating in an active assembly, and Tom Haffield (athlete mentor), Anna (Young Ambassador National Panel Member), and Emily (YST Youth Board member) leading a multi-skill activity session.

Thanks so much to Tredegarville for being so welcoming!

Local Authority Spotlight

Rhondda Cynon Taff

Sport RCT held a celebration event at USW Sport Park for their Young Ambassadors. Over the past year, their YAs have volunteered over 1,500 hours to develop sport and physical activity in their schools!

Carmarthenshire

The Carmarthenshire Young Ambassador also held a celebration event celebrating their young people.

The event includes local partners and National Governing Bodies coming together to deliver activity sessions to the young ambassadors. This year, nearly 200 children attended the event, and they all had an opportunity to try a variety of different sports.

We are very grateful to the young ambassadors who have worked tirelessly over the last year, by delivering activities in their own schools and giving up their break times to fulfil their YA role. These events are a way of saying a massive thank you to them for all their hard work.

Young Ambassadors Graduation

In August, we had our YA National Panel 24/25 graduation. It was a great opportunity to bring some of our National Panel members to reflect on their journeys and what they have achieved. We had speakers from CIMSPA, ENGSO Youth and Portal Training to talk about education and employment opportunities in the sport sector, and Sport Wales led a practical session on the Foundations Framework for Wales. We finished the day with the panel receiving their certificates! Massive thanks to our National Panel for all their help this year; we wish them the best of luck for the future.

Young Changemakers Awards 2025 – Young Activist Winner

We are delighted to announce that our YA National Panel Alumni Ethan Benningwood has been named as the winner of the Youth Sport Trust Young Changemaker Awards 2025 - Young Activist category.

Ethan’s selection as this year’s Young Activist reflects his remarkable commitment to making sport accessible, enjoyable, and empowering for others. As a role model in his basketball club and the wider Welsh community, Ethan has consistently gone above and beyond to promote participation and champion healthy lifestyles. His work with Young Ambassadors Cymru, his dedication to inclusive leadership, and his proactive efforts to support peers of all abilities are exactly what this award was designed to recognise. Keep an eye on our socials for a film about Ethan’s award and impact!

Ethan also received the Special Recognition Award at our YA Graduation event for recently organising a 24-hour basketball challenge at his club (Cardiff Met Archers) to raise funds for the Youth Sport Trust!
