Eden Byrne

Eden is a member of the Youth Sport Trust Youth Board. Positioned at the heart of our organisation, our Youth Board represents and communicates the views of all young people to inform and enhance our work.

What do you currently do?

I am currently at university, studying Childhood and Youth Studies.

Tell us about your sporting background.

I’ve been doing sport all my life, but more specifically taekwondo since I was 10 years old. I got my black belt in 2020 and have since gone on to get my coaching and judging qualifications. I also host my own podcast called Sports For All, which focuses on encouraging young people to get involved in sport despite their background.

What is your area of interest when it comes to accessing sport?

My area of interest is making sure that these are opportunities for young people who have health conditions and disabilities to get involved in sport and to get all the benefits out of it that it can bring to their lives!

Why did you want to become a member of the Youth Board?

I’m really passionate about ensuring that youth voice is represented at a higher level. I also wanted to make a difference by sharing my insight and perspective, especially as a young person from Northern Ireland.

If you could change one thing about sport or physical activity for young people, what would that be?

The one thing that I would change would be more opportunities for inclusive sport here in Northern Ireland. I think there is quite a lot for certain groups of people, but not a lot for people who have health conditions, so it would be great to see more awareness and opportunities for those people.

Tell us a fun or interesting fact about yourself.

I have three cats who keep me very busy, but they bring a lot of joy!
