Chan Cathline

Chan is a member of the Youth Sport Trust Youth Board. Positioned at the heart of our organisation, our Youth Board represents and communicates the views of all young people to inform and enhance our work.

What do you currently do?

My name is Chan, and I am currently in my first year of studying for a Level 3 BTEC in Personal Training at college. Alongside my studies, I play rugby for Saracens Amateur U18, the Maggie Alphonsi PDG, the Saracens U18 Academy and the Elite Rugby Academy.

Tell us about your sporting background.

I began playing football at the age of five and have also participated in a wide range of sports, including BMX, swimming, diving, and Go-Karting. I also started playing rugby at the age of 13 – within a year, I decided to stop playing football to be able to focus on rugby.

Why did you want to become a member of the Youth Board?

I wanted to become a member of the Youth Board because I am passionate about making a positive impact in my community and ensuring that the voices of young people are heard. I see this as an opportunity to develop my leadership skills, collaborate with peers, and contribute to meaningful programmes and initiatives that benefit youth. I am eager to learn, take on responsibility, and help create solutions that make a real difference.

If you could change one thing about sport or physical activity for young people, what would that be?

If I could change one thing about rugby for young people, it would be to make the sport more accessible and welcoming to everyone – regardless of skill level, background, or ability. I would like to see more programmes that teach the game in a safe and supportive way, encourage teamwork over competition, and ensure that every young person has the chance to enjoy rugby and develop their confidence.

Tell us a fun or interesting fact about yourself.

I’ve tried playing three positions in rugby (flanker, full back and fly half), but I still don't know which one I prefer the most after three years!
