We decided to enter the ballot a year ago as the ultimate challenge - it was John’s first time entering (having only been running regularly for a few months at that point) and my third attempt, having previously completed a half marathon and several 10k events. The London Marathon has been on the bucket list for a while, so we were thrilled to both get a place in 2024.
Sport has been a huge part of our lives, from childhood to now, in our mid-40’s. We have been involved in both team and individual sports as participants and coaching/officiating, and have gained so much from our involvement; we wanted to support a charity that reflects this. Our two sons now spend many hours training for their chosen sports - mostly basketball - and are reaping the benefits of participation from a young age. It’s so important for kids to be active, for both their physical and mental health, and the Youth Sport Trust supports this in everything they do.
