Over 200 million active minutes pledged!

National School Sports Week 2023, powered by Sports Slam had an extraordinary impact, as participants pledged over two hundred million active minutes by the conclusion of the week. This outstanding achievement reflects the commitment of more than 2,400 schools, organisations, and families who passionately embraced the campaign's ethos of 'Play for fun, play for 60.

National School Sports Week, the annual campaign led by the Youth Sport Trust to promote physical activity, sport and play among young people, was this year powered by Sport Direct’s Sports Slam, following the announcement of a three-year partnership.

The week-long initiative for 7–11-year-olds, captured the imagination of participants with activities ranging from rugby to athletics. Delivered by renowned athletes including, James Haskell, Lina Nielson, Johnny Fisher, Natasha Jonas, Jessica Piasecki, Rachael Mackenzie, Liz Johnson and Michael Gunning, Sports Slam not only encouraged physical activity but also fostered skill development beyond traditional sports. Endorsed by Nike, Addidas, Puma, Everlast and Under Amour, Sports Slam included a week-long series of activities and challenges, promoting both physical and skill development.

Dedicated support by educators, engaged families, and supportive politicians, resulted in a nationwide celebration emphasising the importance of PE, sport, and play in young lives. The campaign was endorsed by a huge mix of stars including Steve Backshall, Helen Glover, Joe Wicks, Radzi Chinuanganya, Jill Scott, Darcey Bussell, and many, many more.

The 2023 campaign also received robust support from over 60 cross-party politicians, who actively championed our cause through endorsements, social media promotion, and school visits. The collective support of Secretary of State, Gillian Keegan, Shadow Schools Minister Stephen Morgan, Schools Minister Nick Gibb, and Sport Minister Stuart Andrew . significantly contributed to spreading awareness.
