The Department for Education has confirmed the Inclusion 2028 programme has been extended to cover the 2026/27 academic year in full, including the period from 1 April to 31 July 2027.
Previously, the programme was only confirmed to the end of the 2026/27 financial year (31 March 2027).
Inclusion 2028 is a Department for Education-funded grant designed to improve the choices and chances of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities through a series of targeted interventions in physical education (PE), school sport and physical activity.
The programme is led by Youth Sport Trust, working alongside a consortium of expert organisations including Activity Alliance, nasen, National Network of Parent and Carers Forum, Paralympics GB and Swim England to deliver inclusive initiatives ensuring every pupil has the ability to thrive.
The Department’s announcement brings certainty and continuity for schools, the Lead Inclusion School Network, and Inclusion 2028 consortium partners, reflecting the value and impact of the programme.
This extension will ensure Inclusion 2028 can continue to support schools during a period of transition across PE, school sport and physical activity, including the introduction of the new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network.
Youth Sport Trust is delighted the Department for Education has confirmed the extension of Inclusion 2028 and will soon begin discussions with partners to develop priorities, activities and milestones for the remainder of the academic year.
