Summer update - catch up on our latest policy and public affairs news

With schools and Parliament now broken up for the summer, here’s a quick recap of things you might have missed from the past few weeks:
  1. Andy Burnham has become the new Prime Minister, replacing Sir Keir Starmer. Joining Youth Sport Trust’s National School Sport Champion Sir Mo Farah for a run around London, the new Prime Minister promised to be a “PM for sport.” Lucy Powell takes over as the new Secretary of State for Education. Find out more.
  2. The Government has confirmed additional funding to support the transition away from the existing Primary PE and Sport Premium model. Meanwhile, Sport England has confirmed funding for the School Games Organisers Network has now been extended to the end of the 26/27 Academic Year. Find out more.
  3. The tender notice for procurement of a new National Deliver Partner for the forthcoming PE and School Sport Partnerships Network has now gone live. The National Delivery Partner will work with schools and local and regional partners to understand need, target support, and help address barriers to participation. Find out more.
  4. The Department for Education has released a new Enrichment Framework, with an ambition to expose young people to a wide range of experiences helping them prepare for life and work. Sport and physical activities is one of five themes, with a school’s enrichment offer now being considered by Ofsted. Find out more.
  5. The Culture, Media and Sport Committee has published its Game On inquiry report, with a series of recommendations designed to get children moving more. Ideas include making PE a core subject, changes to PE kit and active uniform, and proposals to strengthen initial teacher training. Find out more.
  6. The Class of 2035 Commission of healthcare experts convened by the Youth Sport Trust published its final report and recommendations. At an event in Parliament, Commissioners shared ideas to address growing challenges in children’s health and wellbeing through sport and play. Find out more.
  7. Youth Sport Trust launched our annual PE and School Sport Report at a Parliamentary event hosted by Rachel Taylor MP. Meanwhile, MPs from across the political spectrum joined us for an event in support for National School Sports Week, alongside former England netball captain Ama Agbeze MBE. Find out more.
  8. With much debate about young people’s access to screens and social media, as well as inputting into consultations we published a position paper setting out our ambition to rebalance the demands of the digital age through the human connection of play and sport. Find out more.
