MP's support National School Sports Week in Parliament

Earlier this week, the Youth Sport Trust was delighted to host a Parliamentary drop-in event, in support of National School Sports Week.

MPs from across the political spectrum joined us to find out more about the campaign, including this year's Always Active theme, as well as to learn more about activities taking place in their constituencies.

As recent research we released found, there is strong support across Parliament for children's PE and school sport, with four-fifths of MPs believing schools should provide every child with at least two hours of physical education per week.

With so many opportunities for policy change on the horizon, including through the Curriculum and Assessment Review, National Youth Strategy, Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill and next week's Spending Review announcement, it is encouraging to have so many supportive voices within Parliament.

Our hope is that high-profile campaigns such as National School Sports Week can help highlight which physical activity for children in schools is so important, and encourage action to deliver change so every child has an active start in life.
