Overview

The Youth Sport Trust Young Changemaker Awards 2023 celebrated young people who, working alongside Youth Sport Trust and Youth Sport Trust International over the past year, have made a real and impactful change to their life and the lives of others.

The winners were recognised for their activity in the fields of Physical Education, physical activity, play and school sport in the following award categories:

Young Health Champion Award - Caitlin

Caitlin has won the Young Health Champion Award for her exceptional dedication to using sport as a tool for mental health and well-being. Overcoming personal struggles during lockdown, she made positive health changes, achieved athletic milestones, and became a role model. As a Youth Ambassador Panel Member, Caitlin shares her project ideas for Women and Girls football, showcasing her commitment to making a positive impact.

 

Inspirational Female Leader Award - Laila

Laila's exceptional leadership in promoting girls' football earned her the Inspirational Female Leader Award. As a Barclays Game Changer, she initiated a girls' football club, coached her peers, and organised successful events. Laila's infectious passion and dedication led to increased participation, leaving a legacy at Waterhead Academy. Her commitment to empowering students and creating opportunities makes her a deserving winner of the award.

 

Greatest Turnaround Through Sport Award - Arman & Lucas

Arman and Lucas, through the Boys Move programme, achieved the Greatest Turnaround Through Sport Award. Overcoming initial difficulties in forming relationships, they found friendship and support in each other through boxing. Their improved emotional resilience and well-being demonstrate the positive impact of sports. The award recognises their remarkable transformation and the role of physical education in fostering connections and enhancing students' overall wellbeing.

 

Young Activist Award - Oliver

Oliver's passion for inclusivity in sports, despite facing challenges as a wheelchair user, earned him the Young Activist Award. His active involvement in 'Sport4All' events and the introduction of wheelchair basketball to School Games demonstrated his leadership. Oliver's positive attitude showcases his commitment to breaking barriers and changing perceptions.

 

Inspirational Inclusive Young Leader Award - Eden

Eden, overcoming challenges of dwarfism and epilepsy, triumphed in the Inspirational Inclusive Leader category. Engaging in various sports, including Para Dressage and swimming, she became an active leader in Girls Active, inspiring others with her resilience. Eden's dedication to inclusivity and her role in mainstream and Invictus events make her an exemplary leader. She received the award for her continuous strength and encouragement for others.
