PE and School Sport Report survey - Teachers 2023

New research showing that teachers are concerned about children’s physical and mental health and recognise the benefits of play and sport.

To inform the annual Youth Sport Trust’s PE and School Sport Report and the launch of National School Sports Week, we commissioned Teacher Tapp to conduct research with over 8,000 teachers to understand their current attitudes and views. We found:

  • 97% are concerned about the mental health of young people in their school
  • 73% are concerned about the physical health of young people in their school
  • Nearly all teachers recognise that sport and play help children’s physical, mental and social health.
  • There is low awareness of the amount of physical activity a child should be doing in and out of school
