What is the Youth Voice Practitioner Training?
Many children and young people remain disengaged from PE and school sport. Despite best efforts, some pupils continue to opt out, missing out on the physical, social, and emotional benefits of regular participation. But what if the solution starts with listening?
The Youth Voice Practitioner Training from the Youth Sport Trust is a practical, thought-provoking programme designed to help teachers better understand and respond to the lived experiences of the least active young people in their schools. This training empowers practitioners to create inclusive, meaningful experiences that young people genuinely want to be part of.
Why does it matter?
Too many children don’t feel that PE and sport are ‘for them’. Whether due to lack of confidence, previous negative experiences, or unseen barriers, many students are left behind. By embedding youth voice into your PE and school sport offer, you not only uphold every young person’s right to be heard (UNCRC Article 12), but you also begin to dismantle the inequalities that limit access to activity.
This training helps you to:
- Listen to young people who are currently disengaged
- Understand what a positive experience of PE looks like for them
- Act with practical, realistic changes to your offer
Who is it for?
- Primary teachers (especially PE leads or specialists)
- Secondary PE teachers or Heads of Department
- School Games Organisers and colleagues from Active Partnerships
