Updates

Staff

We are excited to welcome Caroline McCallum to the Inclusion Team as Project Officer. Caroline will be joining Kelly and Rebecca at the conference on Monday 22 September and is excited to meet you all!

Teams Channel Relaunch

Due to popular demand, we have decided to relaunch the Lead Inclusion School Teams Channel this term to keep you up to date with key information and documents. If there is any information you think would be useful to store in this channel, do let us know.

Headteacher DocuSign

To confirm the contractual arrangement between each Lead Inclusion School and the Youth Sport Trust, we need each school's Headteacher to sign the T&Cs sent by DocuSign. We are still awaiting on some signatures and don’t have contact details for all Headteachers. Please get back to us if you receive an email about this.

New Supplier Forms

We are still awaiting the return of a few new supplier forms, and this could cause a delay in school payments. If you haven't returned this yet, please email it to us as soon as possible or get in touch if you have any questions [email protected]

Dates for your diary

Lead Inclusion School Conference

We are excited to see you all in-person later this month for our annual Lead Inclusion School Conference which is taking place on Monday 22 September at Northampton Saints Stadium from 9:30 until 15:30pm. More information about the conference, including the agenda and parking arrangements, will be sent out to you shortly.

Lead Inclusion School Induction Session

If you are new to the Lead Inclusion School role, please join us for one of our two induction sessions where we’ll go through key information and answer any questions you may have.

Inclusive Health Check Week

From 6-10 October we will be having our first Inclusive Health Check week! This week is about promoting the value of the IHC and encouraging schools and SGOs to complete it during this week, so they can track improvements throughout the year. As part of the week there will be a coaching circle that SGOs can take part in to build confidence in using the check. Posts will be shared through social media and School Games dashboards to encourage completions. During this time, you may want to work with SGOs to do your own targeted promotion to schools in your area. If you have any questions or suggestions about the week, please contact [email protected]

October Networking Call

Join us on Tuesday 14 October, 12.00-13.00 for an informal networking session, where you can meet other Lead Inclusion Schools, share best practice and ask any questions.

Menstrual Education Considering SEND

49% of girls said they are inactive at school when they have their period, this was consistent in pupils with SEND. Similarly, the concerns of being in pain, leaking or low mood were consistent when data was extracted for SEND pupils. However, a higher percentage (10%) of SEND pupils reported never taking part in PE when they have their period. Compared to total National data, there was a greater request in SEND to access menstrual products in PE and receive support to help cope in PE with how they are feeling at this time along with more support to understand about periods (Youth Sport Trust, 2024).

To help support pupils with SEND, we would like to speak to teachers to understand how and what resources are required to increase education and support relating to the menstrual cycle and staying active during periods. Our key questions:

  • What education is delivered in your school to pupils with SEND about the menstrual cycle? Is this different to education delivered to non-SEND pupils? Does it include information on managing periods during exercise?
  • Have you received any information or guidance on providing menstrual education to SEND pupils?
  • What are the barriers to SEND pupils receiving menstrual education?
  • Is there anything that would help improve menstrual education and support for pupils with SEND?

We are looking to collate information from teachers working with SEND children and young people, please let us know if you would be interested in talking further about this topic or to be involved in a working group aiming to co-design information and education in this area by emailing [email protected].

How to apply

Once both forms are submitted, you’ll receive confirmation emails. We’ll then review your application to determine if the event is a good fit. On the day of the event, you’ll be welcomed by Ben Quilter, Paralympic medallist and Paralympic Potential Manager. You’ll take part in hands-on sessions with GB coaches in your chosen sports, and receive feedback and guidance to help shape your next steps.

British Athletics, England Athletics, British Mountaineering Council, British Cycling, The FA, Goalball UK, British Judo, British Rowing, AquaticsGB, Swim England and British Triathlon will all be attending.

Discover your Paralympic Potential – British Shooting

British Shooting is seeking young people aged 16–24 years-old with a physical disability or impairment, including limb loss, ataxia or cerebral palsy, who may never have considered Paralympic sport but could have the focus and precision needed for target shooting. If you enjoy games that test concentration and calm under pressure – like strategy games, snooker or e-sports – this could be the sport for you.

We’re inviting inclusion lead schools and colleges to host free events within 40 miles of Manchester, Wolverhampton, Oxford or Portsmouth. Events use laser rifles and pistols, set up in sports halls and led by qualified coaches. Participants may be directed to local clubs or our Talent ID programme, with progression to air rifles and pistols if suitable.

Target shooting is accessible and adaptable – while certain classifications apply for Paralympic competition, anyone can engage at club level. Schools with interested individuals under 16 years-old are welcome to get in touch to explore options.
