Inclusive Health Check Promotion

A reminder to please promote the Inclusive Health Check (IHC) with your networks. Our Spring Termly Reporting revealed some useful ways to promote the Inclusive Health Check to schools, including

  • Incorporating the Inclusive Health Check into CPD and Training with schools and educators
  • Embedding time into meetings with School Games Organisers (SGOs), PE leads and school briefings to discuss the IHC
  • Promoting the importance of IHC in supporting the School Games Mark and Equal Access
  • Encouraging SGOs to share IHC meetings and emails by providing information and email templates
  • Encouraging schools to undertake the IHC via an 'Inclusively Engaged Certificate', where schools will receive certificates once they have accessed certain resources, including the Inclusive Health Check.

Spotlights

Unlocking Inclusive and Active Opportunities for Young People With a Day at the Zoo

In April, Highfurlong School and local mainstream primary schools created an unforgettable day for students at Blackpool Zoo, combining outdoor adventure, physical activity, and cross-curricular learning.

Please share with us ([email protected]) what you are working on so we can share best practice and spotlight your amazing work!

Useful Resources and Opportunities

Drowning Prevention Week

Drowning Prevention Week is one of the largest summer water safety campaigns across the UK and Ireland. This year it will be held on 14 - 21 June. You can find out more information here.

We also have our School Swimming and Water Safety resources on our website, which you can share with your networks.

Engagement Model Framework

The Engagement Model Innovation project was explored and adapted by nine Lead Inclusion Schools across England. The Engagement Model is an assessment tool designed for pupils working below the standard of national curriculum assessments and who are not yet engaged in subject-specific study (replacing P scales 1-4). It helps schools understand how these pupils learn by tracking their engagement with the curriculum. A key aim of the project was for the schools to test how the model could be used in physical education to assess progress in a way that is appropriate, inclusive, and reflective of each pupil’s needs and abilities. We've had some fantastic learnings from this programme in how this model supports an inclusive environment for all young people, seeing all activities as learning opportunities and putting the Education and Healthcare Plan (EHCP) into practice. A big thank you to Iain Mills, Lucy Kent and The Parkside School for sharing your fantastic work on this programme through this video.
