SOGB Unified Football Event – Alfriston School

On 20th May, Maddy visited Rachel Hutchinson at Alfriston School for her SOGB Unified Football Event. The event brought together Beaconsfield High School and Alfriston School with 54 girls, including 27 students with SEND and 11 on Pupil Premium. While there was a wide range in ability, the session promoted inclusion and friendship through sport, in line with Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) Unified principles. Rachel led an assembly at Beaconsfield School, highlighting the importance of supporting peers and having fun. Her clear messaging created a welcoming atmosphere, and students from both schools engaged positively, with Beaconsfield pupils showing great empathy and encouragement toward their Alfriston peers. Feedback from both schools was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers were impressed by how students engaged and supported each other. One student shared, “I had fun because I made new friends."

Useful Resources and Opportunities

My Personal Best Recruitment

The My Personal Best (My PB) programme is based on integrating life skills development into PE for pupils attending Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) or Alternative Provision (AP) settings. The My PB approach connects the curriculum and daily life through physical activities, exploring the insights that they can offer each other. Through participation in the programme, school staff receive training on the approach, enabling them to access resources and create an action plan to enhance their implementation. Read more about the programme’s impact here

Recruitment is now open for applications – please share this link with your networks.

CPD Opportunity - Express Interest

Within the Inclusion 2028 grant, we also have two exciting opportunities for Lead Inclusion Schools to express interest in free CPD within their county. This is for the Inclusive Physical Education course (in-person) with Activity Alliance and the School Swimming & Water Safety CPD (in person) with Swim England.
