Since 2022 the Youth Sport Trust has hosted Inclusion Live, a week of free webinars that aims to upskill practitioners with the knowledge and confidence to deliver high quality physical education (PE), school sport and physical activity for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Funded by the Department for Education Inclusion 2028 grant, this week shines a spotlight on inclusive practice, providing inspiration and insight to support more practitioners improve the choices and chances for young people with SEND to take part in school sport.

This year’s Inclusion Live ran from 26-30 January 2026, bringing together six webinars across the week. Each session explored a different aspect of inclusion, with topics ranging from creating inclusive environments for neurodivergent young people to designing a curriculum that supports every learner to take part and thrive.

One of the strengths of the series is its focus on real-world application. Expert speakers shared their experiences alongside practical ideas and resources that practitioners can adapt within their own settings, helping turn theory into meaningful action.

Rebecca Tyers, Youth Sport Trust Inclusion Programme Officer, said,

“Practitioners are calling for more training in how to support their pupils with SEND access high quality physical education. Inclusion Live is a great way to meet this demand and ensure practitioners can hear about the great work that is already happening across the country. Our speakers shared some fantastic resources and ideas that can further support inclusive practice, and we look forward to hearing about how these ideas have been adopted.”

Over 1,500 practitioners registered to attend Inclusion Live 2026 sessions. Practitioners who joined the webinars said:

  • “The training was eye opening and gave me so many different ideas to progress my teaching.”
  • “The lived experience and diversity of the panel made the session accessible, relevant and worthwhile.”
  • “Really inspiring presenters today - lots of ideas / thoughts to think about.”

Practitioners also shared how they would go on to embed the training into their practice, with many sharing how they would use the free resources to explore new opportunities for their pupils.
