Charity campaign aims to get 1 million children doing school sport

The Youth Sport Trust is asking teachers, parents, and organisations across the UK to help every child to find a place to belong on National School Sport Week this summer.

The UK is facing a ‘new pandemic’ of loneliness, rising mental health needs and childhood inactivity. In a bid to get more young people to have fun doing sport and find their place within it, the children’s charity has announced its annual campaign is back between 20 and 26 June.

Today it launches a new video which will be followed by three video stories voiced by 21-year-old Elodie Fleet who sits on the charity’s Youth Board, Claire Coates, a Head Teacher Ambassador from Griffydam Primary School in Coalville, and Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmer Adam Whitehead. The video stories hope to bring to life the theme of the campaign ‘Belonging – a place in sport for every child’.

On the week itself, the charity will run a series of 60 second interactive challenges to help schools foster a sense of belonging and encourage children to have fun. Stay tuned to its campaign page to find out the latest information.

Everyone who signs up to National School Sport Week will receive free resources from the Youth Sport Trust, including ideas on how to raise awareness of the importance of school sport and be an advocate for it, and invited to join in the fun ‘1 a Day’ physical activity challenges.
