National School Sport WeekYST National School Sport Week
Too many young people are missing out on the life-changing benefits of sport and play that would improve their health and wellbeing and equip them with the skills to thrive.
To turn this around we need like-minded schools, teachers, parents, young people and others to join together and show why PE and sport have an essential role to play in every young person’s development.
We're delighted that Batman, Decathlon, Everything Branded and David Lloyd are partnering YST National School Sport Week 2019. We are also supported by a huge number of organisations, including UK Athletics, England Netball, Swim England, Association for PE (AfPE) and the Jo Cox Foundation. You can see a full list of our supporters for 2019 here.
This year we asked you to pledge your commitment to the wellbeing of all young people through PE and sport.
All those who registered received a toolkit containing ideas about how to make the most of the week as well as information to help you think about how you can showcase your activities through PR and social media.
This year’s National School Sport Week also saw us partner with YST Ambassador and endurance athlete Ben Smith who runs both the 401 Foundation (Charity) and the 401 Challenge (Company). Ben’s next amazing endeavour, 'USA 2020 Challenge', will see him running marathons in all 50 states and cycling between them. He will be aiming to complete the 18,500 mile trek in 104 days – finishing during YST National School Sport Week 2020.
Registering for National School Sport Week gave schools the opportunity to be among the first to hear about how they could get involved in USA 2020 Challenge, through a year-long education programme built around the five ways to wellbeing. Details of the programme and how to get involved have since been released.
What comes next?
National School Sport Week 2019 has now taken place. We would like to thank all of the schools and organisations who registered their support and for all those who took part in activities during the week to commemorate the occasion. We look forward to releasing more details around the 2020 event in due course.
