Beth Gets Active at National School Sports Week

I had the pleasure of attending the first day of National School Sports Week at Dame Dorothy Primary School in Sunderland.

As a Team Leader, I was able to get stuck in with all the activities that the school had planned for us, which was brilliant! From the get-go, it was great to see the school taking on the Always Active approach by championing their PE style uniform.

We started with the most important meal of the day, which was breakfast! It was amazing to see how the school implemented physical activity at their breakfast club by playing a Just Dance-style game to create a relaxed environment before the school day began. I could not believe that this is something they offer to all their pupils every day!

Next up, it was the Girls Active Leaders' time to shine as they took us through some multi-sport type games, which I thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with. Their charisma and enthusiasm really shone through, and I was blown away by their creativity. I got a flavour for what a PE class looks like within the school and got to hear about how the pupils would use the STEP principles, to ensure the games were made inclusive. Then I got to listen in to Rachael Mackenzie’s Q&A with some of the pupils!

Overall, it was a brilliant day to celebrate sport and physical activity, and I loved seeing the positive impact that the Always Active uniform is having on the school. I hope to see more schools follow in Dame Dorothy’s footsteps in the future!
