Where do I start if I am not ready for the Well Check?
You can download the Steps to Success Guide or listen to the Well Schools podcast here - www.youthsporttrust.org/well-schools.
Can schools be part of multiple groups/clusters/trusts?
Yes, anyone setting up a group of schools can invite any school to confirm they are part of the group. This is automated, but requires the headteacher of each school to confirm.
Is the Well Check ongoing and live?
Yes, you can go back at any time to review or change your responses, update the data collection questions or revisit the actions and resources in your development plan.
What is the Well Check?
The Well Check is a free-to-access self review tool that supports a whole child, whole school approach to creating happy, healthy learners.
Do I have to complete all the actions in the development plan?
No. It is really important to focus on the actions that will have immediate impact, to focus on a small number of actions and to implement them consistently over time. That is how real change and impact will happen.
Do we have to complete the Well Check every year?
Yes. You may even wish to revisit the Well Check multiple times a year depending on how you are progressing with the actions in your development plan but you will need to revisit the Well Check at least once each academic year.
Do you have to complete the Well Check in one go?
No. We recommend that you share responsibility with different people in your school. You can invite colleagues to collaborate and assign different pillars to different people.
What if we don't achieve enough points for the Well Schools Accreditation?
That is where your development plan is so important. The actions and support will enable you to make improvements and revisit your responses to the Well Check and get above that 60 point threshold.
If we are a trust or cluster lead, how do I see a summary of all my schools?
In October 2025, we will be launching a group level summary function so you can see common areas of strength, challenge and improvement across the group.
What if I am a Through School?
The Well Check is still relevant and you will be presented with all age groups for the five data collection questions.
How does Well Schools link with other quality marks or awards e.g. Healthy Schools?
We would encourage you to use the evidence you have collected for other recognised quality marks and awards, when completing the Well Schools Accreditation. For example, for Live Well you could use your Healthy Schools Award, or for Move Well you could use your School Games Mark Gold Award.
How long does the Well Check take to complete?
To do it properly and as a worthwhile exercise, a minimum of 60 minutes. If you assign certain elements to different people in your team, probably longer.
Can we have multiple logins?
Yes. The Well Check and development plan is assigned to the school URN and can have multiple people accessing the same document.
Is there group payment functionality?
Yes. When registering a group of schools it will provide you with a dashboard showing where each school is at with the Well Check and Well Schools Accreditation, and the option to purchase on behalf of them all.
