Health and Wellbeing Lead School Newsletter

November 2021

Introduction

Welcome to the November newsletter for Health & Wellbeing Lead Schools. It remains a challenging time for staff and pupils in school right now and we are grateful for the fantastic engagement we have seen with the next phase of Boys Move CPD sessions. It is a vital time for us all to take care of the health and wellbeing of the young people we work with and we are grateful to you for how you do that every day in your schools.

ACTIONS

Boys Move CPD

If you haven’t already booked onto the Boys CPD sessions then please follow the links below. Whilst we appreciate you have the Zoom links already, we need you to register formally so we are able to capture the data for reporting back to Sport England. Please click on the link for the group you are allocated to, or for the one you have nominated a colleague to:

We have also invited you all to the Boys Move Team, and you will have been placed in the Boys Move channel relating to these groups. There you will find recordings for the sessions you attend, any supporting resources for the sessions such as planning templates, and have the chance to ask questions of the tutors and colleagues. The link is here.

Active in Mind CPD

We have set the dates for two sessions for the Active in Mind CPD.  This is where you will receive direct training, slides and resources from Rachael Mackenzie and Louise Gray so you are equipped to deliver the CPD to at least five schools.

We would like you to work with five partner schools, primary or secondary and deliver AiM CPD. As part of this work we will be providing you with a set of resources including a slide deck and matrix for delivery.

We will be offering a virtual orientation session where we aim to run through the CPD as a 'mock delivery' and give you the opportunity to see it in action and ask questions etc.

Please book your place by 12 November using the below links:

A zoom link will be sent out to you once you have registered to attend one of the sessions which you can save to your calendar.

Boys Move Surveys

A reminder for you to baseline survey, and follow-up with the cohort of boys that you plan to engage and work with through your Boys Move project. Our Research and Insight team will be tracking these surveys over the course of the next six months and developing a report covering staff feedback and pupil feedback. These surveys are incredibly important as we make the case for the future roll out of this programme.

UPDATES

Boys Move Report and Theory of Change

For those of you that are looking to influence your Head Teachers, MAT CEOs etc. we have been working to produce a designed theory of change and refresh the report for you to use with them. The report ‘What about the Boys?’ outlines the evidence relating to a decline in the mental health and wellbeing and their lack of engagement with PE and sport, as well s the principles for how sport can be a tool for change. The theory of change describes the journey you are going on a s a school through the Boys Move CPD and creating the targeted project that uses the power of sport to change young boy’s lives.
