Being a Team Leader

I learned about the team leader programme at my university. I wanted to become a Team Leader as I'm a passionate believer that sport can bring people together and create communities as a result. I grew up in an area where, whilst there were PE lessons and after-school sports clubs, they never felt inclusive enough. I'd want young people to have a much more positive and inclusive experience when taking part in physical activity.

Since becoming a team leader, I've realised the influence we can have on the future of young people, giving them the tools to expand their thinking and giving them the belief that they can achieve anything they set their mind to. It has given me a clearer image of what avenues to go down following the completion of my degree, as becoming a team leader has allowed me to develop my social skills and given me the ability to communicate my thoughts effectively and listen to other people's opinions.

Quick Fire Questions

If you could do any sport, what would it be and why?

I've always been passionate about cricket. Every summer, the main highlight of it would be playing with my mates in the park behind the house I grew up in, as well as playing for my local club on the weekend. I've always wanted to travel the world and explore the different cultures that surround cricket, such as being able to play street cricket in India, or playing beach cricket on the Australian coast or in the Caribbean.

What is your proudest sporting memory?

My proudest sporting memory is watching the journey of my favourite football club, Ipswich Town, getting to the Premier League. Having worked for the club at the time, it was incredible to see how the football club brought together the entire town and embraced the spirit of "running towards adversity", which is a mantra which I adopt in my everyday life.
