Tackling the youth mental health crisis through the power of PE, sport and play

The Youth Sport Trust Awards 2023 will recognise the work of schools, settings, Trusts and individuals who have demonstrated the central role of PE, sport, physical activity and wellbeing in building back healthier, happier and more resilient young people.

Awards will be presented at the YST 2023 Awards Dinner on 01 March at Telford International Centre on the eve of the YST 2023 Conference.

The award categories are:

  1. YST Outstanding Early Years Practice

Awarded to a setting that has placed play, physical activity and wellbeing at the heart of their curriculum, ensuring that learners’ physical, social and emotional health is central.

  1. YST Outstanding Multi Academy Trust Practice

Awarded to a Multi Academy Trust that has demonstrated excellent collaboration across the MAT to use PE, sport, physical activity and wellbeing to build back healthier, happier and more resilient young people.

  1. YST Outstanding Primary Practice

Awarded to a school that has used PE, sport, physical activity and wellbeing to build back healthier, happier and more resilient young people.

  1. YST Outstanding Secondary Practice

Awarded to a school that has used PE, sport, physical activity and wellbeing to build back healthier, happier and more resilient young people.

  1. YST Outstanding Inclusive Practice

Awarded to a special, PRU or AP school that that has used PE, sport, physical activity and wellbeing to build back healthier, happier and more resilient young people.

  1. YST Outstanding Contribution to the Community

Awarded to an early years setting, primary, secondary or special school which has harnessed the power of PE, sport, physical activity and wellbeing to develop and deliver targeted interventions which bring people and communities together to build back healthier, happier and more resilient young people.

  1. Campbell CARE Award - Network Leader / Local Influencer Award

Awarded to a PE or school sport network leader who in their area has influenced change that has positively impacted on schools and young people through PE and school sport.

  1. Beckwith CARE Award – Young Changemaker (International)

Awarded to a young person or group of young people who have demonstrated skills and confidence to lead change and harness the positive power of play and sport to improve wellbeing, build friendships and foster understanding in their school or community.

YSTi will select the winner

  1. Beckwith CARE Award - Young Changemaker

Awarded to a young person or group of young people who have demonstrated skills and confidence to lead change and harness the positive power of play and sport to improve wellbeing, build friendships and foster understanding in their school or community. 

The YST Youth Board will select the winner from the category winners at the Young Changemaker Awards

Nomination process

  • Closing date for nominations – Midday on 30 January
  • Judging panel to meet and all decisions finalised – by 06 February
  • Shortlisted nominees informed – w/c 06 February

Important information to know when nominating

  • Awards will be presented at the YST 2023 Awards Dinner on 01 March at Telford International Centre, on the eve of the YST 2023 Conference
  • Tickets to both the YST Awards Dinner and Conference will be available to purchase from January
  • Throughout the dinner, winners’ details will be shared on Youth Sport Trust social media channels and post event they will be announced on the Youth Sport Trust website
  • The Youth Sport Trust reserves the right to publicise the results and use winning nominations in press releases. Winners may be asked to cooperate with any requests from the media.
