YST World leading subject leadership CPD
These are one-day courses that can be accessed as stand-alone courses or as a series of modules. They have been written by teachers for teachers and draw on exemplary materials from our network of member schools.
Our Impact - Leadership

These four modules are for teachers of secondary PE, particularly those who are aspiring or new to the role of subject leader for Physical Education.

Module 1: Vision for PE

This course is perfect for aspirant and new subject leaders for PE who are looking to advocate physical education with senior leaders. It will challenge your thinking around what purposeful PE needs to look like to not only satisfy and stimulate students but also help realise its potential to impact whole school and add value for senior leaders and other key stakeholders.

Aims:

  • Understand current educational, health and sport landscape and implications on PE and schools
  • Understand the difference between and value of PE, sport, physical activity and physical literacy
  • Challenge thinking around the value and purpose of PE to add value to students and your school
  • Understand behaviour change model and provide a toolkit to support evolution of our subject.

If you have attended a Power of PE workshop, you will have covered much of the content in this module and may wish to choose a different module.

Module 2: Teaching, learning and assessment

This one-day course is for new and experienced secondary PE teachers. It provides the opportunity to investigate the national curriculum framework, current educational reforms and pedagogy to ensure your lessons are relevant, meaningful and stimulate progress for all students. It includes ideas on how to integrate technology into lessons to add value, how to effectively group students to stretch and challenge them and provides examples of basic progressive lesson formats.

  • A plan for effective lessons and series of lessons for use in your school setting.
