PMLD - Lead Inclusion Innovation Project

The Profound and Multiple Learning Disability (PMLD) Innovation project is funded through the Department for Health and the Department for Culture Digital, Media and Sport and administered through Sport England, in order to raise awareness and raise the profile to the School Games network of the Special Olympics Motor Activities Training Programme (MATP) Competition format.

The latest Active Lives Children and Young People Survey highlights the importance of accessible programmes such as MATP in addressing low confidence and enjoyment levels when participating in sport for young people with SEND. The survey also shows that this group of young people have a more negative attitude and engagement towards sport, which is contributing to greater social isolation and how happy they are feeling.

The project offers an opportunity to provide immersive CPD/Action training, to up-skill SGOs, teachers support assistants, support medical/health care staff to engage young people with PMLD in a range of activities and structured inclusive competition.
