LTA Open Court

Schools will work with the LTA and YST to deliver the pilot project which gives them access to LTA Youth Schools teacher training which on completion of the course provides each with a £250 voucher to spend on team teaching or purchasing tennis equipment. Alongside this will be the opportunity to access a local tennis festival specifically for young disabled children.

Description

The LTA deliver a sector leading programme for disabled people called Open Court. This programme has previously reach over 13,000 disabled people playing monthly, but due to COVID the programme has been severely impacted with a number of disabled people not returning for a complexity of reasons. Around 24% of their venues come from the education sector, namely schools and colleges with some university engagement. But over the last two years, their engagement with schools has decreased dramatically due to restrictions and lack of funding.
Using the Open Court Programme for specific support for delivery and on-going support, we believe this is a great opportunity to reach more disabled children and young people in education, whilst supporting and educating teachers to embed sustainable tennis as a core sport and providing exit route opportunities through Open Court venues locally.
Successful schools will work with the LTA and YST to deliver the pilot project which gives them access to LTA Youth Schools teacher training which on completion of the course provides each with a £250 voucher to spend on team teaching or purchasing tennis equipment.
