Commonwealth Games- Summer of Inclusive Sport
This will include engaging young leaders with and without SEND along with increasing participation for pupils with SEND.
The aim is to improve and increase opportunities for pupils with SEND by increasing the quality and impact of PE/SS/PA provision and training through innovating new content and delivery approaches as we build and experience the magic of the Summer Paralympics Games in Tokyo in 2021, the Winter Paralympic Games in 2022, and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham also in 2022.
Schools involved will be asked to deliver a programme of inclusive sport opportunities that are Paralympics/Commonwealth themed and that link to wider opportunities through the Olympic and Paralympic ‘Get Set’ educational programme.
Schools will be asked to deliver engagement and participation opportunities to a minimum of 60 young people (70% with SEND), encouraging them to play together, challenging perceptions of disability and collectively building empathy. A minimum of 10 young leaders (50% with SEND) will need to be upskilled and empowered to lead through this programme.
The impact of this project will provide young people with and without SEND the opportunity to come together and participate in Paralympics/Commonwealth themed activities. This will support development of acceptance and friendships between young people with and without SEND and provide schools with high quality resources to continue to use back in schools to further increase participation
