Local programmes to benefit from Virgin Sport and Youth Sport Trust

Virgin Sport is on a mission to get more people moving. They want to help break down barriers to participation by providing a unique outdoor fitness-meets-festival experience that bring people together and make challenge fun.

Working in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, young people will benefit from the impact of these events through support of local programmes and initiatives that use sport and physical activity to create positive social change.

Virgin Sport is planning three Festivals of Fitness in the UK for 2017: Hackney (30 April), Westminster (9 July), and Oxford (8 October).

Virgin Sport Hackney is due to take place on Sunday 30 April and so far projects that will be supported include Orienteering Hackney, providing parents and young people from the area who may not have the chance to see the countryside, with regular opportunities to experience orienteering, sport and outdoor activities. Getting Hackney Girls Active, will help extend the work of a local academy in their Youth Sport Trust Girls Active work, aiming to give young girls a new outlook on life, improving self belief and body confidence. In addition support will go to a project called Families Eating Together, Playing Together, Hackney, which will provide low income families, who are unable to engage in healthy eating or physical activity, a safe environment to eat together and play together.

Thanks to the financial support of Virgin Sport and the generosity of their participants, we can further extend our reach, and support local communities in keeping young people active, engaged and excited by PE, physical activity and sport.
