Primary PE and Sport Premium
To help you to maximise your primary school sport funding, we have put together a comprehensive guide on what to consider before making your investment decisions and details of how the Youth Sport Trust can support you.
The Department for Education have produced an information document on how much Sport Premium funding primary schools receive in the academic year 2017/18. Click here to access this. The Youth Sport Trust and the Association for Physical Education (afPE) have been commissioned by DfE to collaboratively produce new guidance and a template to support schools in evidencing the impact of the Primary PE and Sport Premium, this is available as a PDF here and as a Word document here.
Goals for the extended funding
The Youth Sport Trust has set out five goals to improve children’s formative experiences of PE and school sport for a generation. At the heart of these bold ambitions is better support for primary teachers who currently receive an average of just six hours of initial teacher training in Physical Education.
Using the Primary PE and Sport Premium, the YST believes it is possible to transform schools through:
Quality Mark self-review tool
Youth Sport Trust have created a self-review tool to help you assess your school's current provision and outcomes in PE and school sport. This will help you to identify priorities for development and how to maximise the funding available to you. This is accessible through our membership offer.

Active School Planner
The Active School Planner is a free to use tool, primarily for primary schools but available to all, designed to track and improve physical activity levels in your pupils. The planner allows schools to demonstrate the principles of an active school and plan activities accordingly. The self-review tool is part of our commitment to support SGOs and the Childhood Obesity Plan; it encourages users to plan and evidence the CMO guidelines and the PE and School Sport Premium by integrating 30 active minutes for every child into the school day. For primary schools, utilising the tool also forms part of the School Games pre-requisites. You can access the tool directly via www.activeschoolplanner.org
Understanding the impact case studies
Together with the national partners, including Sports Coach UK, afPE and the CSPN, we have developed case studies that look at the background, actions taken, and impact regarding primary schools' use of the funding across a variety of areas, including health, competition and extracurricular activities.
Youth Sport Trust and our other national partners, produced a set of short films to act as a comprehensive guide to all aspects of the funding, and physical activity in primary schools, which you can access on Sport England's website.
