The Youth Sport Trust is delighted to announce a new partnership with The FA to bring the excitement and inspiration of UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 to young people this National School Sport Week (NSSW).

Taking place from 26-30 June 2017, NSSW is a huge celebration of PE, school sport and physical activity and sees schools devote more time across the curriculum to engage all their pupils. Now in its 9th year, 2016 saw more than 5,000 schools and 1.8 million pupils take part and thousands of schools are expected to take part this year. Schools can register here and every school will receive a free digital planning guide and resources from the FA.

Major sporting events inspire so many young people to take up new sports and participate in more activity. In keeping with the football theme, schools might choose to launch girls’ football to celebrate England’s Lionesses or deliver a Euro-themed event for girls linking to the European Championships. Schools will find further inspiration and ideas in the NSSW digital planning guide they receive by signing up to take part.

The Youth Sport Trust is thrilled to have teamed up with the FA ahead of our Lionesses heading to the Women’s Euros this summer. Bringing the power of female sporting role models to schools is particularly important as we want to stop the decline of girls taking part in sport and activity. Team games not only enhance physical health, but support emotional and social wellbeing too. We hope this focus on such a successful and aspirational team will inspire thousands of girls to get active.

“2017 is a big year for women’s and girls’ football. As well as the Lionesses heading out to The Netherlands for the Euros, The FA also announced Gameplan for Growth, which outlined our target of doubling girls’ football participation by 2020. With the Lionesses set to be centre stage at the Euros, it acts as the perfect opportunity to inspire girls throughout the country to get involved in football and working with the Youth Sport Trust and National School Sports Week is just one way of achieving this.”
