We have 489 pupils at our school and having this funding really helps to raise the profile of sport in our school and the community.

I feel our school already offers children a wide range of opportunities; we celebrate children's sporting talents, we challenge them, and we have a real focus on children achieving their personal best. 

Laying strong PE and sport foundations

We celebrate the success of all our children within sport, it is so important to ensure they are engaged. The way we have spent our funding has enabled us to build on the firm foundations we already have in place and further develop physical activity throughout school. We recognise there are always areas for improvement and the funding along with providing evidence of impact, helps schools to ensure those improvements are a priority.

One of the big ways we plan to use our premium is for continuing professional development for staff to improve the quality of teaching and learning. We also want to support our parents and children so that pupils can access after school clubs funded through the sports premium. 

Setting targets for a lasting legacy
We began by completing a self-review of our school to look at where we felt we were against our five key indicators before deciding what our goals for 2017/18 should be.

These included:

  • Engagement of all pupils in physical activity kick starting healthy, active lifestyles. 
  • Profile of PE and sport being raised across school as a whole school development.
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils. 
  • Increased participation in competitive sport. 

Our target this year is to increase the percentage of children’s engagement in activity levels throughout the school day and ensure as many children as possible access the wide range of after school clubs in 2017/18. 

I am delighted that this funding boost will mean that we can invest in better specialist equipment and support our SEN children to go further. It’s great to see children with disabilities taking part in wheelchair basketball with able bodied children and being able to be involved in sport and competitions with no restrictions. 
It has been evident to see how this funding will give us the opportunity to try new sport and resources with reduced restrictions. I look forward to what 2017/18 will bring.
