Dorset Headteacher Alliance

In 2014 the Dorset Headteacher Alliance for PE and school sport in association with the Youth Sport Trust was launched. Its members currently represent schools from across Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth.

Membership of the Alliance includes not only Headteachers from across the phases but is also supported by School Games Organisers, Active Dorset and Public Health Dorset. The Alliance is actively engaging with emotional health and wellbeing colleagues, the local education authority and school nurses.

The Alliance has a terms of reference that is currently under review.

Improving the lives of all young people of Dorset through the power of sport, PE and physical activity

To bring together representatives from different educational organisations who share a common ambition: to improve the lives and wellbeing of all young people of Dorset through the power of PE, sport and physical activity

The Alliance enables members to learn about the work of other organisations, identify opportunities for collaboration and future investment alongside fulfilling individual roles more effectively

The Dorset Headteachers Alliance for PE and school sport aims to:

  1. Champion, respond to, and help shape, Dorset-wide strategies for improving PE, school sport and physical activity for young people
  2. Influence strategic thinking to align strategies, both Pan Dorset and nationally and attract additional resources to the county
  3. Advocate high quality physical education, school sport and physical activity across Dorset
  4. Oversee work of sub-groups.

Recent exciting opportunities have resulted in discussions in developing two strategic sub groups focused on Health and Wellbeing and World Class Sport that link to the Headteacher Alliance. This latter group will predominantly be made up of Local Organising Committee members. Terms of reference are currently being written.

We are always seeking new members from across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole who share our vision and would like to support our role in informing, influencing, advocating and championing PE, school sport and physical activity for children and young people.
