Youth Sport Award

The Youth Sport Award is a unique award scheme that puts health and wellbeing at the heart of developing young people, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.

What is the Youth Sport Award?

Supported by founding partner Loughborough University, the Youth Sport Award (YSA) is the only UK award scheme of its kind aligning wellbeing with leadership.  It has been designed to recognise young people’s learning progress and achievement in and through sport. Delivered through a e-platform, the Award places great emphasis on the wellbeing, leadership skills and achievement of young people. It is a hugely beneficial tool for evidencing the development of a young person’s character education (life skills) and what this means for their future employability.  The Award creates a respected pathway for young people, allowing them to collect and evidence skills through their sporting experiences.

YSA is divided into five strands:

  1. Wellbeing - a commitment to physical activity and personal health and wellbeing
  2. Achievement - achieving qualifications linked to sport
  3. Leadership - commitment and service to sport
  4. Sporting event - bringing learning alive by managing a sporting event
  5. Reflection - transferring skills from sport to life

There are four different levels of the Award - Go, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Please have a look at the targets overview document on the right to see what the minimum number of points is for each strand at each level.

The Award is currently available to schools, and will be available to universities, youth groups and sports clubs in the future.

How do I access the award?

For the academic year 2017/18, Level 3 member schools have priority access to the Award as part of their membership offer. Non-level 3 member schools will need to pay an additional fee to access the award. To sign up for the Award, please contact the Membership team
