Nearly one in three children who start primary school in England at the age of five are not 'school ready'. For too many children, especially those living in the most deprived areas, educational failure starts early. Gaps in achievement between the poorest children and their better-off counterparts are clearly established by the age of five.
We find this a shocking statistic. We believe that every young child should have a fair start in life, yet too many children are starting their education without the basic skills to begin learning. We are determined to close the gaps created by inequality and disadvantage – but we cannot do it alone.
Your support will make a big difference to young lives and it will enable us to continue to deliver and develop innovative programmes, addressing issues facing young people today. Please choose a challenge, set your goals and help us change lives – take it from someone who has done just that, it feels amazing.
I had ‘run the London Marathon’ on my ’40 things before I’m 40’ list and I was running out of time. YST were really supportive throughout our fundraising, coming up with fundraising ideas, sharing our events on social media, sending training tips and tops to wear on the day and they were there to cheer us on! As long as it didn’t involve running the Marathon, I would definitely support the YST again!
