Ben Smith

YST Ben Smith
The man who ran 401 marathons in 401 days. He's now pursuing his new challenge, the USA 2020 Challenge, in a bid to raise funds for the 401 Foundation and the YST.

Back in 2015, Ben became the only person in the world to run one marathon every day for 401 days, covering 10,500 miles and raising in excess of £330,00 for two anti-bullying charities and changing the lives of tens of thousands of people in the process. Ben is one of YST's Wellbeing Ambassadors, he also runs his own mental health foundation called The 401 Foundation.

In March 2020, Ben will be embarking on his next challenge called 'The USA 2020 Challenge', running a marathon in each of the US state capitals and cycling between them. This covers 14,001 miles in just 104 days and aims to raise £1 million for The Youth Sport Trust and The 401 Foundation.

Sport has had such a positive effect on my life, I'm in a position where I'm able to show our younger generation first hand, the power of sport and how it can positively affect their own mental wellbeing. YST's view that every child should enjoy the life-changing benefits that come from play and sport is why I wanted to work alongside them. I can't wait to see how my next challenge and our 'Journey to Wellbeing Education Programme' brings this to life.

What's Ben working on?

Ben is working with YST and the 401 Foundation to shine a spotlight on his challenge in 2020. Through this collaboration, they have developed an educational program called 'Journey to Wellbeing' which is available from October 19 to 4,001 schools throughout the UK, allowing over 1 million young people to be apart of his next challenge. Ben is hoping to raise £1m to fund vital mental health initiatives in schools and local communities across the UK whilst at the same time, giving schools and young people practical ways of embedding wellbeing in their daily lives.
