About this programme:
Our Event Volunteering programme, supported by HSBC Education Trust and v, aims to recruit, train and deploy teams of young people as volunteers at major sporting events in six cities: Bath/Bristol, Birmingham, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Tyne and Wear.
The delivery of a successful 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the many International events that will precede the Games, will rely heavily on a 70,000 strong volunteer workforce. It’s essential that young people are equipped with the necessary skills and experience to undertake a volunteering role at a major sporting event.
Six young people aged 20 to 25 have been offered the opportunity to undertake a full-time voluntary placement as a Young Event Volunteer Development Officer (YEVDO) in one of the host cities. Each YEVDO will recruit, train and deploy young event volunteers within their cities.
Target audience:
16 to 25 year olds
Issues that this programme tackles:
Event Volunteering offers a defined role for young volunteers to receive bespoke training and opportunities to volunteer at major events within their cities. This project will provide a local skilled workforce and encourage young people to increase confidence, teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills.
How is this programme accessed?
All School Sport Partnerships local to one of the host cities are able to access this programme by contacting the Young Event Volunteer Development Officer (YEVDO) directly.
