About this programme:
The expanding education and PE and school sport environment has provided the opportunity to build on TOP Play and develop the new Key Stage 1 resource, Active Play. The programme uses resource cards to bring a variety of linked activities to young people and is supported by a deliverer’s handbook. It also includes multi-skill festival cards. Active Play supports the delivery of the five-hour offer so it can be used to complement curriculum delivery and also offer enrichment activities for young people in a variety of out-of-school hours activities.

4 to 7 year olds

Active Play encourages young people to develop the five multi-abilities of creative, cognitive, social, physical and personal development. The programme also supports the Every Child Matters agenda and the National Healthy Schools programme.
How is this programme accessed?

Training:
Training is not compulsory for Active Play and trainers already familiar with TOP Play will be able to use the new Active Play resources to support their existing knowledge and understanding. However, through the national CPD Programme, Active Play resources along with training can be accessed to support the delivery of High-Quality PE. The national CPD programme provides training courses and resources in PE for headteachers, teachers, teaching assistants and adults other than teachers in primary and secondary schools and aims to raise the quality of teaching, coaching and learning in PE and school sport. For more information on how to access these Active Play resources and training as part of this CPD programme please contact your Local Delivery Agency (LDA) within your School Sport Partnership (SSP).
