Sainsbury's Active Kids

Sainsbury's Active Kids logoThe Youth Sport Trust is delighted to support the new Sainsbury’s Active Kids campaign for 2008, which encourages children to become more active and healthy. From 14th February until the 4th June 2008, you can earn one Active Kids voucher per £10 spent in-store at Sainsbury’s and on Sainsbury’s Online. To encourage healthier choices, there are bonus vouchers for fresh fruit, vegetables and salad, plus any of the thousands of foods marked with the healthy ‘apple stamp’, such as milk, pasta, rice and fresh fish.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers can then be donated to any UK school, Scout or Guide group participating in the scheme and redeemed for almost 1000 different pieces of exciting sports equipment. Vouchers can also be redeemed for over 50 different types of cooking equipment including bread-makers, steamers and woks as well as basics such as wooden spoons and chopping boards. This year there is a new secondary school catalogue withover 400 new products. In addition, Sainsbury’s has agreed partnerships with the Rugby Football Union, Premier Rugby, English Basketball and English Netball, so pupils can go and watch matches as a way to get inspired to do more sport.

In a ground-breaking move, Schools also have the option to collect their vouchers for ‘partner schools’ in developing countries, and those in less privileged areas of the UK, to donate specially selected packages of sports equipment through the Sainsbury’s ‘Active Kids Fund’.

Dame Kelly Holmes, Active Kids brand ambassador says: "I am really proud to support Active Kids again this year. It's really great that kids in Britain are going to have the chance to help more needy children than themselves. Donating vouchers to schools in developing countries will make a huge difference and enhance to the quality and range of sports that can be played there - it's absolutely fantastic."

Sainsbury’s has donated £52million worth of sports equipment and experiences to over 31,000 UK schools and nurseries since the launch of Active Kids in 2005.
