Academies with a Sports Related Specialism

Overview

Cheeky school boyAcademies are all-ability state schools with a mission to transform education. They are set up where the local status quo in secondary education is in need or improvement, or where there is a demand for new school places. They are established and managed by independent sponsors, and funded by the government at a similar level to other local schools. Some Academies are brand new schools in areas needing extra school places. Others replace weak or under-performing schools.

The Youth Sport Trust has a remit from the DCSF to support Academies in the use of the Sports Related Specialism. There are currently 19 open Academies in this network, with a further 15 in the implementation and feasibility phases of development. These Academies are located in all areas of England. This network continues to grow, with new and established Academies developing and celebrating improved student performance and progress.
