Benefits and Outcomes

Zoneparc leader“The playground is more inclusive, those who may not have previously joined in with playground games, are now fully involved and engaged,” Learning Support Mentor

“Girls are more active through the use of the individual and group skipping ropes.  This has had a significant effect on the amount of girls being physically active, as the playground is no longer dominated by boys’ games.  Boys are also using the skipping ropes,” PE Co-ordinator

Zoneparc and playground development that adopts these principles has huge benefits for young people.

The programme:

  • Counteracts many of the social and behavioural problems encountered by young people. Research has shown young people often feel isolated, bullied and socially excluded at break time.
  • Provides training and support for midday supervisors, support staff parents, and teachers.
  • Provides training and leadership opportunities for older pupils working with younger pupils.
  • Offers opportunities for young people to explore new activity and enjoy break time and after school activity.
  • Motivates young people to re-engage with school and get involved as participants, mentors and leaders.
  • Empowers young people to be creative, develop their own activities and make informed choices.
  • Enables schools to provide more opportunities to increase participation in PE and school sport.
  • Encourages schools to use the playground for cross curricular purposes and as an outdoor classroom.
  • Supports schools to build new links with community groups to extend the use of the Zoneparc outside schools hours.

“The roles played by the leaders have opened many people’s eyes as to the value of leadership and responsibility,” Zoneparc Co-ordinator
