Sainsbury's TOP Activity

Sainsbury's TOP Activity

About this programme:

Sainsbury’s TOP Activity is an exciting, innovative programme of ‘alternative’ sport and physical activities such as cheerleading, space hopper relays, martial fitness and circus skills, designed for use in out-of-school hours clubs. It has been developed by the Youth Sport Trust, through the support of Sainsbury’s Active Kids, and comprises resources and equipment.

Target audience:

7 to 11 years year olds, who may not currently access sport and recreational activities through the more traditional routes and / or are disengaged from physical activity. The resources have also been very successful with children with special educational needs or young people with a disability.

Issues that this programme tackles:

Sainsbury’s TOP Activity aims to:

  • Raise the profile of sport and physical activity for all young people.
  • Engage those 7 to 11 year olds not currently participating in sport.
  • Increase young people’s level of participation in physical activity.
  • Provide access to alternative activities and clubs.
  • Support the delivery of informal out-of-school hours clubs.
  • Improve children's fitness, nutrition and self-esteem.

How is the programme accessed:

The Sainsbury’s TOP Activity resources can be purchased from the Youth Sport Direct website – www.youthsportdirect.org under the ‘Brands’ section. The resources comprise a set of activity cards, a deliverers handbook and a large bag of varied equipment. The bag of equipment is also available through the Sainsbury’s Active Kids primary catalogue and can be purchased using the Active Kids vouchers available to collect in any Sainsbury’s store.
