Thank you to all those who have so generously supported the Youth Sport Trust.
On 8 February Alex Hinchliffe and Rob Walls set off to climb to the top of Kilimanjaro in Africa. On the 14 February they successfully reached the top, at a height of 19,000ft.
“After setting off for the final assent at midnight we finally neared the summit at about 7am on Thursday 14 Feb. We were not only battling against the intense altitude sickness which was hampering our every move, there was also the ever thinning air meaning that scrambling over rocks, ice and snow was becoming increasingly difficult. The temperatures had dropped to around minus 25. Just as we thought that we would never make it, dawn broke and gave us the extra impetus we needed to make the final push to scale the top of Kili and finally enjoy the amazing views from the roof of Africa.”
Not only did they successfully achieve this fantastic challenge, but they also raised over £2,000 in support of the work of the Youth Sport Trust. Thank you to them both of their incredible support.
In May 2007 John Robinson was selected to represent England and Great Britain at two different sports - shooting and triathlon. He set himself the daunting task of competing in five international events plus one non-international event in just over three months. As well as this he decided to use his participation in the six events to raise money for the Youth Sport Trust. He said:
“I feel very strongly that youngsters should have the opportunity to participate in sport and that's why I've chosen this charity.”
On 1 September 2007 The Leeds & District Referees Association held a dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Leeds.
On 15 April 2007 Stephen Kirk supported the Youth Sport Trust when he ran in his first Marathon, the Paris Marathon. He clocked an incredible time of 3 hours 20 minutes despite it being an incredibly hot day.
In July 2006, a Charity Ball organised by the Malaya Company at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst raised over £10,000. With stick fighting, dodgem cars and an auction with items such as a Get out of Command Appointment Free Card and Full Kit Preparation for the Sovereign’s Parade the event was a great success. Thanks to Second Lieutenant Tom Coker for organising it and Coca-Cola who also supported the event.
