Respect Athlete Mentor Programme (RAMP) utilises the expertise of elite athletes to provide a targeted mentoring and support programme for young people in schools and the community. The programme is funded by the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) and run in partnership between the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England (via its delivery agent Creating Excellence).
The key objective of RAMP is to ensure positive influences for disaffected and disadvantaged youngsters. 30 Mentoring packages will be delivered, targeting up to 90 people in education. Each mentoring package has a maximum of 20 visits by an Allocated Athlete Mentor and is tailor made based on the needs of the young person or people (up to three). The young people are guided by their athlete to show them new opportunities and widen their horizons. They set goals together at the start and throughout the intervention process, and so the youngsters are encouraged to self review and take on responsibility.
RAMP aims to challenge values, attitudes and daily routine. It is leading this work, initially, with schools in selected target areas across the country including: Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry, Sheffield and London.
The team consists of 13 elite athletes from a range of different sports:
- Tim Prendergast: Paralympics Gold Medallist runner

- Dermot Gascoyne: International Boxer
