The National Talent Orientation Camp (NTOC) is a four-day camp for talented young athletes (14 to 17 year olds) who are seeking to make key decisions about the potential performance, personal and lifestyle pathways ahead of them. It brings together the experience and expertise of the DCSF, Gifted and Talented Education Unit, Youth Sports Trust, practitioners from the education sector, UK Sport, EIS and the World Class performance staff of the attending National Governing Bodies (NGB’s).
The NTOC provides a focused and intense period of education and reflection. The young athletes are exposed to insights into the ‘world of performance sport’ which will help inform their future decision making. As well as this it provides them with a unique and valuable opportunity to become ‘students of their profession.’
The second National Talent Orientation Camp was held from Saturday 5th January to Tuesday 8th January 2008. The Camp, held at Loughborough University, featured some of the country’s top 14 to 17 year olds, who have been identified by their sport’s governing body as having the potential to make it as elite athletes in Canoeing, Rowing, Cycling, Sailing and Triathlon.
