Creating our legacy

Wednesday, 2 December 2009

Special Schools PE and Sport ConferenceStaff from special school Sports Colleges and mainstream schools with young disabled pupils will join our conference in Nottingham today to celebrate all that they have achieved during the past year. They will also explore how PE and sport can inspire young disabled people to maximise their personal and sporting potential through a variety of workshops and discussions throughout the day.

With three years to go before London hosts the 2012 Games, the theme for this year’s Special Schools PE and Sport Conference is “Creating our Legacy.” The conference will explore a range of areas including high quality PE, coaching, school to club links, competitions and the empowerment and role of young disabled people to lead and contribute to developing a legacy beyond 2012.

Our conference will welcome speakers including Michael McGrath, the only disabled person in the world to reach both the North and the South Pole and Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust.

Steve Grainger MBE, Chief Executive of Youth Sport Trust, said:

“This has been another hugely successful year for young disabled people across the country and this year’s conference will bring us together to seek solutions and answers to how we continue to ‘develop our legacy’ for PE and school sport as we move towards London 2012. The conference provides a unique forum for expanding working partnerships and we are delighted that even more National Governing Bodies of Sport and corporate agencies are with us today.”
