Wednesday, 10 March 2010
Paralympic gold medallist swimmer and world record holder Sascha Kindred is visiting a Suffolk school today that has won a national competition to show how London 2012 is inspiring their pupils.
Sascha, a Youth Sport Trust School Sport Ambassador, is meeting pupils and staff at Heath Primary School in Ipswich and will see for himself the London 2012 Paralympic inspired activities taking place there. Sascha will also take part in a question and answer session with pupils.
Heath Primary School secured the visit after entering a national competition on our Inspiring School Sport website which encouraged schools to tell us what activities they were doing to motivate and inspire pupils by London 2012.
The school has already hosted a range of events for pupils, including everyone at the school forming the shape of the Olympic rings on the school field and has made a short documentary which is being used to promote the East of England’s contribution to the London Olympics and Paralympics.
Sascha said:
“Sport has the power to motivate and inspire young people and it is great to get the chance to visit pupils in Suffolk to see how they are building the excitement around the Olympics and Paralympics ahead of 2012.
When I get the chance to visits school like Heath Primary I like to share my experiences of what it takes to be an elite Paralympian. It’s not an easy journey, it requires a real focus and determination and there are highs and lows along the way. However, when you pick up that gold medal, all the hard work is most definitely worth it.”
