Sue Campbell honoured at Sport Industry Awards 2008

Sue CampbellSue Campbell CBE, the Chair of both the Youth Sport Trust and UK Sport, has been presented with the inaugural Marsh Leadership in Sport Award at the Sport Industry Awards 2008.

A lifelong passionate advocate of sport, Sue was presented with the award on 1 May by two Youth Sport Trust ambassadors - double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, and fellow gold medallist runner Darren Campbell. The 1,600-strong crowd of industry figureheads and celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment reacted to the award with a standing ovation.

Sue’s award recognises her unrelenting efforts to develop the sporting infrastructure in the UK and her remarkable contribution to the industry as a whole. The Prime Minister Rt. Hon Gordon Brown MP sent a video message of congratulations to Sue, in which he said:

“Sue Campbell has long played a leading role in the development of British sport. Today as Chair of both the Youth Sport Trust and UK Sport, she helps shape strategies for both school and elite sport and masterminds their delivery. She does so with passion, commitment and expertise, never losing sight of her overriding ambition: to help create a sporting system in this country that is sustainable, world class and the envy of other nations…Those that work for her are inspired by her. Those who work with her have unbounded respect for her.”

Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust, Steve Grainger said:

“I’m delighted that Sue’s achievements and leadership have been recognised in this way. All of us working in PE and school sport would like to congratulate her on this well-deserved award.”
